NGA’s Moonshot Labs

In 2021, T-REX opened Moonshot Labs, the first-of-its-kind innovation center. This premier, unclassified collaboration space serves as a vital bridge between the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), industry, and academia in the region.

Moonshot Labs exists to tackle NGA’s toughest challenges with nontraditional approaches to pursue differentiated outcomes. Moonshot Las works in conjunction with other organizations across NGA to bring innovative solutions to the forefront.

The focus of Moonshot Labs is software development as tradecraft. While NGA’s software developers anchor the center, other agency technologists, data-science personnel and teammates from other areas are also in-residence.

Unlike previous NGA buildings and workspaces that have unclassified areas, the labs were designed and developed to be a completely open from the outset. The unclassified environment allows the agency’s workforce to collaborate face-to-face with traditional and nontraditional partners throughout the geospatial community.
