FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Louis nonprofit T-REX announces that William (Bill) Caniano has joined its Board of Directors. Caniano most recently served as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) West Campus Executive for the past three years and has dedicated his life to serving his country and supporting the St. Louis region. In his 47 years of service in the U.S. intelligence community, Caniano spent the last 17 of those years as a senior executive at NGA and the Defense Intelligence Agency, leading both agencies’ corporate communications, congressional liaison, and public affairs operations.
In the St. Louis region, Caniano’s leadership and impact is evident. Recognizing the resources and opportunities that NGA could provide the St. Louis Metro area, he strived to bridge gaps between federal and state government, industry, and academia. Caniano fostered federal partnerships like Education Partnership Agreements (EPA), Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA), and Partnership Intermediary Agreements (PIA) with regional universities and institutions, which opened doors for regional workforce and business development, and research opportunities.
Caniano’s efforts to strengthen collaboration across sectors closely align with T-REX’s own evolution as a regional resource hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in FinTech, Health Tech, and Defense Tech. Over the past five years, Defense Tech has become an increasingly significant component of T-REX’s work, complementing its longstanding commitment to entrepreneurship and economic development. In 2020, T-REX opened its Geospatial Innovation Center to support regional entrepreneurs. The following year, NGA’s Moonshot Labs — an unclassified lab space that fosters collaboration between government, industry, and academia — was established at T-REX. In 2022, T-REX expanded its partnership with NGA through a PIA, advancing regional programming in federal contracting, workforce development, geospatial education, and small business support. As a Board member, Caniano will help T-REX unlock even more resources for regional future job creators in defense tech and beyond.
